安防监控系统涉及的领域非常广泛，通常包括：综合布线、视频监控、周界报警、高压电网、门禁、紧急报警、巡更、对讲、公共广播、会见录音、监管信息等十多个子系统。从近年来看，虽然安防监控系统在智能化方面取得了一定的进展，但由于多方面的原因，仍存在急待改进的问题。一直以来，上述提到的各个子系统都是独立运行的，信息不能共享，相互之间没有关联，形成了信息孤岛。一旦出现紧急事件，各系统之间无法及时关联联动，监控图像和其他安防资源不能共享，造成管理方不能直观对应，无法快速、高效地发挥预警和防范的作用;事后也难以统一核对和查找记录信息之间的相关性，浪费人力、物力，造成了管理效率的低下。
